We Asked Our Members:
"What sort of a commute do you do to train at Shobu Aikido of Boston?"
Here's what they said:
Doing aikido at Shobu Aikido of Boston is MOST convenient to you if you live or work in the Somerville, Medford or Cambridge area. We found that the majority of our students who come to classes regularly are not coming from the immediate area.
Here are some numbers that might make your eyes pop!
The shortest commute by one of our active members? - A 3 minute walk. The longest commute by one of our active members? - A 1.5 hour drive. The average commute by car by our active members? - Approximately 27 minutes (with weekday traffic). The average commute by train/bus by our active members? - Approximately 38 minutes (at peak hours).
The average commute by Sensei Gleason to the dojo?
- 30 minutes at peak hours.
Something else that's noteworthy:
The majority of our actively training members will tell you that there were other aikido dojos in "more convenient locations" to them. In fact, only about half of our active members believe that the location is "convenient" and the rest say that "convenience does not matter".
This is not surprising when you review the locations of other martial arts studios and aikido schools and then look at a list of where our students come from!
Our members have been coming to our dojo in Somerville from many nearby towns like South Dartmouth, Brighton, Allston, Revere, Marstons Mills, Mashpee, Belmont, North Reading, Brookline, Haverhill, Hanson, Rochester, West Roxbury, Seekonk, Methuen, Plymouth, Marblehead, Salem, Winchester, Charlestown, Lowell, Chatham, Andover, Charletown, North Andover, Sandwich, Sagamore, Marlborough, Hyannis, Concord, Sandwich, Winchester, Newton, Falmouth, Brewster, Watertown, Lexington, Hudson, Sudbury, Framingham, Natick, Lincoln, Dracut, Avon, Ashland, Cambridge, Dorchester, Lynn, New Bedford, Billerica, Belmont, Jamaica Plain, Millis, Wayland, Waltham, Groton, Boston, Worcester, Somerville, Jamaica Plain, Great Barrington, Centerville, Westborough, Medford, Arlington, East Boston, South Boston, South End, Needham, Wayland, and dozens of other local towns and cities.
